AUTOMATIC DESIGN
OF METAMATERIAL
ACTUATORS

WHAT IS

METAMECH?

Using DEMs and optimization algorithms, Metamech solves
the general problem of efficient and automatic design of
responsive metamaterial machines
.

METAMECH IS ABLE TO PRODUCE
GENERIC MATEMATERIAL ACTUATORS WITH A BROAD SET OF
POSSIBLE MOVEMENTS AND EFFICIENCIES.

THE ALGORITHM

Input and output
regions are selected in
a triangular geometry.

The algorithm then finds
the optimal configuration
leading to the desired
response.

The final structure is then
transformed into a mesh
ready to be simulated with
FEM and 3D printed.

METAMECH
PROTOTYPES

More complex actuators can be subsequently obtained by the
interlinking of multiple elementary actuators with count-less possibilities in many fields of application like
robotics.
